Plastic Surgery Procedures after Weight Loss

Overview of Procedures after Weight Loss

Massive weight loss – through diet and exercise or weight loss surgery – is a great achievement and the result of hard work to look and feel your best. QLD Plastic Surgery is here to help with our array of procedures for after weight loss.

Often, however, it results in unexpected and unwanted side effects. These can include large amounts of excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat that no amount of diet or exercise can get rid of. Many people are left feeling uncomfortable and disappointed at a time when they expected to look their best, as they continue to struggle to find suitable clothing and are unhappy with the appearance of large, sagging skin.

There are also medical issues associated with this, including general discomfort from loose skin and rashes and infections under skin folds.

There are a number of cosmetic procedures that can help you complete your weight loss transformation by removing excess skin, repairing muscles and contouring your body. Some of the most popular of these are outlined below.

Your QPS Surgeon will also be able to discuss suitable procedures for you in a consultation.

Our Procedures after Weight Loss

Breast Surgeries

Loss of weight from the breasts can leave the remaining breast tissue sagging or excess skin and tissue. The excess skin can rub against the chest, creating problems with infections and rashes.

There are a number of procedures that may be able to address this, depending on the patient, including breast reduction, breast lift, and breast augmentation.

Liposuction / Body Contouring

Liposuction removes fatty deposits from specific areas of the body. This can include the stomach, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, hips, knees, calves, ankles, the chin, cheeks, neck, upper arms and breasts. It is often combined with other procedures after weight loss, such as a tummy tuck or body lift.

It must be remembered that Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, but rather a body sculpting tool for removing fatty deposits in areas that don’t respond to diet or exercise. As a result, after a significant weight loss journey, it is the ideal time to undertake this procedure.

Thigh Reduction

Excess skin and fatty deposits in the inner thigh after weight loss can be particularly problematic as the constant rubbing of the thighs can lead to conditions such as fungal infections. These problems can become chronic and a source of embarrassment, as well as a health risk.

Excessive fatty deposits on the inner thighs, coupled with skin excess, can also reduce mobility and will largely determine the type of clothes that can and cannot be worn. While a Body Lift includes the outer thigh, a thigh reduction can remove loose skin and excess fat from the inner thigh to alleviate these issues.

Arm reduction / Arm lift / Brachioplasty

A brachioplasty, often called an arm lift or arm reduction, removes excess skin and fat from the arms. This is an area where gravity has a particularly strong effect, pulling down on excessive arm tissue after weight loss (or due to ageing). The extra sagging can result in significant “loose hammock” like deformity from the underarm to the elbow and can become can create issues with infections of the skin or fungal dermatitis.
