Wrinkle ReductionNon-Surgical Options give the illusion of youth..

Many of our clients are opting for less invasive cosmetic procedures to help maintain the appearance of youth. Some younger adults are opting for injectable fillers when the first visible signs of ageing are noticed.

Note: PERMANENT FILLERS ARE NO LONGER USED IN THIS CLINIC.

QPS/Chrysalis employs two fully qualified cosmetic injectors and they offer a wide range of options to reduce or erase lines and wrinkles.

Muscle Relaxants:

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) restricts clinics from advertising the Botulinum Toxin used, but the product we use is safe and has been approved for Cosmetic use by the FDA in the US and the TGA in Australia.

In laypersons terms, the botulinum toxin simply keeps the muscles that cause frown lines from contracting. This causes the skin to become smoother. Normally your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so that they can contract and move. The muscle relaxant keeps that message from getting to the muscle that causes the wrinkles. Several tiny injections of the muscle relaxant are made directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.

Your cosmetic injector will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create a furrowed brow vary markedly among individuals.

No anaesthesia is required, although your injector may choose to numb the area with a cold pack prior to injecting. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. You can expect to be in and out of the clinic without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 4 months.

Other areas of treatment with muscle relaxants:

Axillary Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. Patients with hyperhidrosis produce an amount of sweat that far exceeds that needed to regulate body temperature. Botulinum toxin therapy is administered through tiny injections into the underarms to inhibit the release of a neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, from nerve cells, blocking the signals that stimulate the eccrine glands to produce sweat.

Cervical Dystonia

Cervical dystonia, also called spasmodic torticollis, is characterized by involuntary contractions of the neck muscles that cause twisting, repetitive movements, or abnormal postures of the head. The muscle contractions restrict normal movement and can cause severe, chronic neck pain. Muscle relaxants can be used successfully in adults to decrease the severity of abnormal head position and neck pain associated with cervical dystonia.

Botulinum Type A FAQs

Is it safe?

Botulinum Toxin has USA FDA and Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) label approvals, including treatment of expression lines/facial wrinkles and hyperhidrosis. When injected by a properly qualified and trained injector in an appropriate medical setting, Botulinum Toxin is an extremely safe treatment.

Is Botulinum Toxin toxic?

The muscle relaxants used in this clinic are TGA-approved drugs, and are a naturally-derived protein called botulinum toxin. When injected properly with appropriate dosing, the risk of complications is extremely low. However, as with any medical treatment, there is the potential for adverse effects, and therefore, prior to treatment patients must be informed about the potential risks of these treatments.

Is Boulinum Toxin botulism?

No. Botulinum Toxin is a naturally occurring protein. Even in high doses, it does not result in botulism.

Does Botulinum Toxin paralyze my muscles?

Botulinum Toxin blocks the ability of the stimulating nerve to cause contraction of the injected muscle. This does not result in permanent muscle injury or paralysis. It does reduce or substantially eliminate the ability of this injected muscle to contract and produce overlying skin wrinkles. This effect is transient and generally lasts about 3 to 4 months.

What are the potential risks of Botulinum Toxin?

The greatest risk is when Botulinum toxin is not injected properly. You may receive limited benefit, or you may experience a condition called ptosis (a dropping of the area injected). It is possible, but unlikely, that you will experience a mild headache following treatment. It is possible, but rare, that you may experience mild flu-like symptoms after your injections.

Is there an age limit for Botulinum?

Botulinum Toxin for cosmetic purposes should not be administered to anyone under 18 years of age.

Who should not have Botulinum Toxin treatment?

If you are being treated for any neurological disorder, you should first consult your doctor. Some individuals with very lax facial muscles may not be good candidates as the injections can cause ptosis, or sagging, rather than have a positive cosmetic effect.

My salon/spa/cosmetic counter/neighbor offers Botox. Is this safe?

No. Botox, like any medical treatment, should only be prescribed by and injected under the direct supervision of a properly qualified physician in a properly equipped medical setting (doctor's facility).
