What you may not know about silicone breast implantsJuly 29th, 2009![]() ‘Make sure the breast implants that will become part of your body are made by a company with the highest level of quality and experience in the world.'
Selecting an implant suitable for you is an important decision in any breast surgery. Many factors determine a suitable implant such as the sizing you are looking to achieve, and your frame in general. Breast implants come in a range of sizes and are calculated by the term CC. This is equivalent to ML. Common sizes used within our Practice range from 250cc to 500cc, the most common being 375CC. To determine what size implant we will recommend we will discuss your current breast size and what size you are looking to achieve. If you are already a size 12B and wish to achieve a D Cup you will need a smaller implant than a person currently with a 12C wishing to achieve a D Cup. Another important factor we will discuss is the profile of the implant you wish to use. Profile indicates the ‘projection' of an implant (height vs width). Profiles range from low to moderate to high. In the past few years Mentor introduced the profile ‘moderate plus'- this is now the most commonly used profile we use. The profile we recommend for you will be determined by your chest width & frame in general. A smaller frame person may be more suited to a high profile in comparison to a broader person more suited to a moderate profile. The implants used within my Practice are manufactured by Mentor. After almost two decades of research with surgeons and patients, MemoryGelTM silicone implants are now available. MemoryGelTM implants feature a cohesive, gelatin-like substance that acts as a solid rather than a liquid. It holds together uniformly while retaining the natural give of breast tissue. Mentor has a long commitment to its products and patients who use them. All of their breast implants come with a free limited warranty and lifetime product replacement policy, providing assurance to you that the implants you have chosen are not only of the highest quality, but that they stand behind their integrity in the years to come. In your consultation we will discuss what you are wishing to achieve and we will be able to indicate the most suitable implants for you. During the consultation you will also have the opportunity to try these implants on in a supportive bra to obtain an idea of what the final outcome will be.
